Want to work with us? That’s a rhetorical question. Of course, you do. Now, here’s your chance. We’re looking for a paid intern who can commit to 15-20 hours a week.
Our basic pre-requisites:
- You have to be reliable. Moreover, you need to understand that deadlines are absolutely paramount.
- You have to be able to work independently/without extensive supervision. (We’re not going to throw you to the wolves, but we won’t hold your hand.)
- We expect you to give your full effort to assigned projects/tasks.
- You have to be able to work in Santa Monica.
- You have to have some programming experience.
If you hit all of those, keep reading.
Here’s our official internship listing:
7 Generation Games, an educational video game startup, is looking for a reliable and motivated web development intern to work 15-20 hours per week. This is a PAID internship at $12/hour.
Position would start ASAP. We’re looking for someone to commit for four months, but often our interns end up staying longer when it works out for both of us.
Some experience with HTML5/ CSS is required. If you don’t know how to code “but want to learn,” this is not the position for you. If you have some experience with HTML5 and CSS (see requirements below) and want to get better and gain real-world experience, you could be a fit.
The internship will involve game testing and documentation to start in order to familiarize intern with the project, then some junior level development as it pertains to 7 Generation Games products as well as other needs (i.e. company site, teacher resource site).
Primary Required Skills
Secondary Desired Skills
Other highly desirable but not required areas of expertise include: PHP, SQL, C#, Unity, Photoshop or Gimp and Blender. Audio editing ability also a plus.
We do not expect applicants to be experts in all of those areas. Any combination of the above skills will be considered.
- Creating web pages and mini-games for educational video games and/or company site
- Game testing
- Documentation of levels created
- Bug reports of issues identified in game testing
Depending on the applicant, other duties may include editing video or audio, creating graphics or animation and creating reports. Opportunity to work on Unity projects, dependent on candidate skills and interest.
Intern will work on-site in Santa Monica, two or three days a week.
This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in a thriving – and rapidly growing – startup.
We’re looking for someone who is able to commit (to both the position and a set schedule) and who is willing to work hard. You will learn a lot. Also, as we mentioned before, you’ll get paid, so we expect you to treat this experience as a job.
If you would like this internship for credit, we can work with you to set that up as well. (And we’ll still pay you.)
Please note: This internship isn’t a guarantee to a staff position, but when we do add staff the first people we look to hire are our current and former interns — and we are a growing company.
Please email resume and briefly explain (300 words or less) in the body of the email why you would be a fit for this position at 7 Generation Games to Maria Burns Ortiz at email@example.com. No phone calls please.
