I began by creating a character in Adobe Firefly using her likeness and bringing it to life. To add some humor, I came up with a Jekyll-and-Hyde-type character. When a student gets a question wrong, instead of a boring, discouraging “FAIL” button, they’ll be confronted with a funny, angry-looking version of their teacher. It’ll make them laugh and want to try again! (There is a slight risk they might get answers wrong just to see their favorite teacher’s funny angry face, but I think it’s a risk worth taking if it helps them enjoy the game.)
If you’re thinking this sounds complicated, don’t worry! With the power of Gemini or any AI chat tool, you can easily brainstorm a prompt to input into Firefly, or even create the image right there in the chat. (Though you may want to use a dedicated AI image generator for the best quality and results.) And voilà! You have your very own video game character.
When designing your game- whether you’re using AI or writing it all yourself- you can even give your digital self a fun catchphrase. Maybe it’s something you actually say to your students all the time! My sister requested hers be, “I will destroy!” If you knew her… this is very on-brand. I also made sure her character design captured her classic, loving-but-stern “teacher look.”
