Excuse me, I must be really stupid

Confess! Do all of you people have early morning meetings, before I am awake, planning how to irritate me?

We have been focused on letting as many people as possible know about our games, including our new release, Forgotten Trail.

We write blogs, have a mailing list, exhibit at events, have a Facebook page, a twitter account, have a full-time person who contacts schools, have a youtube channel. For most of these – Facebook, twitter, youtube, instagram, we have both a company account and personal accounts.

The fact is, it’s a jungle out there.

Door leading into the jungleNo, not that jungle, that’s for our game, AzTech, to be released this fall.

There are over ONE BILLION websites, YouTube claims to have 300,000 videos uploaded EVERY MINUTE. I could go on, but my point is that there is a very, very large crowd one needs to rise above and we are trying hard every day to do just that.

Apparently, though, I am an idiot because it’s really easy, or so I have been told. Here are a few examples of advice people have given me, more than once, and each person is so POSITIVE that he or she is right.

You just need one tweet crafted saying the exact right thing. I could write it for you and, bang, like that, you’ll have millions of people buying your games.

When I pointed out that I had personally tweeted 16,400 times on one account alone, I was told that I had not used the “exact, right words that would trigger people to buy. Since that was not revealed to me, I am going to assume that the exact, right words to trigger people to buy are:

Grapefruit, hangover, triple back flip, aqua.

Okay, I said the magic words. Click here to buy Forgotten Trail for $4.99. It’s fun, interesting and you’ll learn stuff.

Here is one that we get ALL of the time:

Your daughter is famous! You just need her to tweet out one time/ make a video/ dance on Lincoln Blvd holding a 7 Generation Games sign and everyone in the entire world will buy your games.

Okay, first of all, do these people think that I don’t know who my own daughter is? Do they think that at every family gathering I say to myself,

Hmm, I wonder who that blonde woman is who looks like a taller version of Julia? She seems familiar. What’s her name?

Just in case all of those people are correct and that would get you to buy our games, here is a video with Ronda from Christmas. Although it is past Christmas, it is still May and you can use the discount code MD10 to get 10% off.

Then there are all of those people who promise to improve our sales by 1,000,003% if we pay them $40,000 or $100,000 to optimize our SEO and revamp our website.

My point is, either

  1. It is a whole lot of work to get the word out about anything, because there are over a billion EACH of web pages, tweets, youtube videos, Facebook posts and instagram messages, so it takes a lot of time and effort to get noticed, even if you have a really good product which is fun and educational for kids and adults.
  2. We are just so stupid that we can’t find the magic words to put in our tweets or meta data so that everyone in the world will throw buckets of money at us.

We’re going with option 1. We’re also doing a weekly podcast starting next week. If you’d like to be notified when it is available each week, email info@7generationgames.com

You can email us your sure-fire never fail marketing tips, too, but we’d really rather you bought our games.
